Eleanor McGavic Edwards was born on October 31, 1906, in St. Louis, Missouri. Her family lived in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, where she attended school. She also attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant and Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. While attending Stephens College, she married artist Emmett Edwards.
From 1926-1929, she lived in Maywood, Illinois, and in New York City from 1929-1933. She then moved to Woodstock, New York, where she lived from 1933-1980.
As an artist, she mainly worked in watercolor and painted landscapes, and was widely exhibited. She was a member of the Woodstock Art Association, the Woodstock Foundation (where she also served as secretary), and the Woodstock Guild of Craftsmen. She died in Woodstock in August 1980.
