Julia Blain was born on June 3, 1893 in Ozark, Missouri. She studied art at Drury College and studied under Charles Cagle, Omar Lassonde, and Antonio Cortizas. She worked at Springfield Art Museum from 1944-1945, and she was in charge of art classes and exhibitions. She also gave lectures on modern art. From 1947-1960, she lived in Ship Bottom, New Jersey.
