Daniel Chamberlain was born around 1826 and settled in Rolla, Missouri circa 1862 where he paid a federal occupational tax as a photographer. Also in 1862 he had his first advertisement for his “Chamberlain’s Picture Gallery” that was located opposite of Rolla’s train depot. He continued to advertise his gallery in the Rolla Express, a local newspaper, until it ceased publication in 1863. It is unclear if Chamberlain continued to operate his gallery after the Civil War. Around the time the Civil War ended he built a stone house that included his photography studio which had a wooden cupola that had a skylight. Chamberlain died in 1896 in Rolla, Missouri.
