Joel O. Jewett was born in New Hampshire circa 1837.  He moved to Missouri in the 1850s. From 1858-1860 he lived in St. Louis where he had his daguerreotype, ambrotype and photography gallery that was located at 736 Broadway in 1858-1860 and 356 Broadway in 1860.  Jewett was also active as a licensed photographer in Lebanon, Missouri, in 1862, and established a photographic gallery in Rolla, Missouri in 1863. One of many photographs that Jewett took is a printed broadside of Captain William Flentge’s Company K, Fifth Missouri State Militia Cavalry who was stationed in Rolla from 1863-1865.  Jewett was also active as a photographer in Macon, Missouri, in the 1870s.
