Gladys Claggett was born around 1904 in Kansas. She graduated from the University of Kansas in 1923, with a bachelor’s degree in Design. She taught at Lincoln High School, in Kansas City, Missouri from 1925 to around 1943. In 1928, she was the advisor for the art club at Lincoln.
She was a judge for the Urban League Art Exhibition for African-American artists in 1935.
