Doris Bradley was born on February 4, 1926. She studied art at the Kansas City Art Institute, graduating in 1951 as part of the first group of African American students to earn a bachelor of fine arts from the Art Institute.
In 1953, she received a scholarship from the People’s Art Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Her artwork consists of paintings, drawings, sculptures and wood carvings.
Later she attended Harris-Stowe State College in St. Louis and received her teaching certificate. She taught at Hempstead Elementary School in St. Louis for twenty-six years until her retirement.
She died on February 28, 2009, in St. Louis.
