Elizabeth Summers was a Kansas City artist who was known for her painting and lithography exhibiting with local arts organizations in the area.
Summers graduated from the University of Missouri in 1906. She moved to Kansas City with her husband in 1912, and earned a master’s degree in English from the University of Kansas City, and graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute. She studied art with Ernest Lawson, John D. Patrick, Alexander Kostellow and Ivan Summers. In 1929, Summers attended a summer art class presented by Charles Bunnell, and she won an honorable mention award for her work. She participated in the Missouri State Fair in 1929 and won an award for her work and also participated in the Midwestern Artists’ Exhibition in 1930 and won an award for her East Bottoms painting.
Summers was an active member of the Kansas City Society of Artists, and served as vice-president in 1929. In 1934, she participated in the Public Works of Art Project, and her work was included in the exhibition held at the Kansas City Art Institute.
Outside of her artistic career, Summers taught English for the Kansas City School District for twenty years before retiring in 1955.
