Beryl May Triplett

Beryl May Triplett, a painter and art teacher, was born on August 12, 1894, in Mendota, Missouri. In 1924, she received a bachelor’s of science with a major in art from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Pi and Delta Sigma Epsilon, and was the secretary and treasurer of the Fine Art Club.

While finishing up her master's of art degree at the University of Missouri, she taught art at her alma mater from 1925-1927. Once she finished her master’s degree, she was hired as an associate professor of art at Central Methodist College in Fayette, Missouri, and worked there from 1927-1946.

At Central Methodist College, she continued her graduate studies in art during the summer of 1931 at the University of Colorado and during the summer of 1934 at Columbia University in New York. In addition to her art studies at educational institutions, she also studied privately with Henry Lee McFee and Millard Sheets.

During her art and education career, Triplett gave lectures on American regionalists and contemporary art and was an active member in the Western Art Association and the Missouri State Teachers Association.

In 1946, she retired from Central Methodist College and transitioned into public service, working at the Putnam County Library for sixteen years.

She died on July 5, 1972, in Unionville, Missouri.
