Everett C. Coffelt, a painter, was born on July 14, 1886. He attended high school and Drury University (circa 1907) in Springfield, Missouri. Coffelt worked mainly as an insurance agent in Springfield, but was also the editor of The Ozark Countryman, a farm publication, for a period of time.
Everett was a member of a group of artists in Springfield who called themselves The Sunday Painters. He traveled throughout the Ozarks painting scenery for about fifteen years. In 1947 at the Missouri State Fair, he won second place in the “Oil Paintings by Amateurs” category. Coffelt was also involved with the Springfield Art Museum. He made the initial contribution toward the first painting bought by the museum.
He died on August 25, 1960.
