Marcella Ludden McBride was born on September 28, 1926. She attended Northeast High School in Kansas City, graduating in 1944. That year she won a scholarship to the Kansas City Art Institute as part of a high school art competition.
In 1949, she married John McBride, who also was an artist. The couple frequently exhibited their work together and were members of the Saturday Sketch class at the Kansas City Art Institute. They participated in art excursions with the class to the nearby towns of Westphalia, Weston and Lexington, Missouri, to draw and paint. As part of this class, the watercolors they made on their trip to Westphalia were exhibited at the Knights of Columbus Hall there in 1949. Marcella was also involved in organizing the alumni association at the Kansas City Art Institute, and in 1948 she was named temporary secretary of the group.
During the 1950s, McBride worked at Townsend, Williams Inc., an advertising agency. She was known for painting watercolors of rural landscapes and streetscapes of small towns.
Marcella Ludden McBride died on June 6, 2003, in Independence, Missouri.
