Paul E. Baumgardt was born in Kansas City on May 25, 1909. He was a student at the Kansas City Art Institute in the early to mid-1940s and studied with Ilah Marion Kibbey and Thomas Hart Benton. During his active years as a painter and illustrator in Missouri, he participated in the Midwestern Artists' Exhibition held by the Kansas City Art Institute in 1935 through 1938 and in 1941. The artwork exhibited included watercolor and drawings. He died on April 30, 1992, in Missouri.
