Gertrude Greenblatt Mazia was born on November 26, 1915, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She studied art at the Graphic Sketch Club in Philadelphia, then at the Philadelphia School of Design for Women. She exhibited her work at the School of Design in 1938.
In the late 1930s, Mazia moved to Columbia, Missouri, where her husband, Daniel Mazia, was a professor of zoology at the University of Missouri. In Columbia, she taught at the Recreation Commission. While in Columbia, Mazia exhibited in St. Louis at the annual Missouri Exhibition at the City Art Museum, and with the St. Louis Artists’ Guild. She also showed her work at the St. Louis Art Center in a solo exhibition of her drawings and sketches in 1939. Mazia made drawings of individuals, including students at the University of Missouri, and she also created images of the Ozarks.
Gertrude Greenblatt Mazia died on April 16, 1990, in Alameda, California.
