Celia M. Stuever was part of a well-established St. Louis family who were often written about in the society pages. As an artist she practiced both painting and etching and was active in St. Louis in the early 20th century.
Stuever studied art at the St. Louis School of Fine Arts. After her studies there, she attended the Académie Julian in Paris and studied with Adolphe William Bouguereau and Gabriel Ferrier. She later studied art in Vienna and Munich.
Celia traveled widely in Europe and throughout the world with her brother, Dr. Francis L. Stuever. She was with him in Vienna when he died in 1928. After his death, she continued to travel, often sending her work back to St. Louis so it could be included in exhibitions there.
Although based in St. Louis, Stuever was a member of many artist associations, including the Chicago Society of Etchers, California Printmakers, California Society of Etchers, New York Society of Etchers and Society of Western Artists.
