A lifelong Kansas City, Missouri, resident, Genevieve Humphreys graduated from Paseo High School in 1941 to pursue and establish a career as a professional artist at Hallmark Cards as a greeting card designer. Humphreys worked for Hallmark until 1973, with her last known title at the company being Creative Artist II.
Humphreys studied under John Pike, whom she credited for the inspiration to paint the beauty of the world around her, as well as other watercolorists such as Tony Couch and Tony Van Hasselt.
Genevieve was a member of the Kansas City chapter of the Watercolor Society and was an active member of the Kansas City art community, participating in juried art fairs in Kansas City, including the Plaza, Brookside and Westport art fairs.
After her retirement from Hallmark, Humphreys traveled to other countries such as China and Spain, to casually study various forms of art overseas. She died in 2012 at the age of eighty-nine in Shawnee, Kansas.
