Arthur M. Brown was born in 1856 in Iowa.  He settled in St. Joseph, Missouri, and worked from the 1880s-1890s with Rudolph Uhlman, a photographer, as a photographic retoucher.  Starting in 1900, Brown worked as a photographer owning a photography studio with William Hassebroek called Brown & Hassebroek that was the successor of the Lewis Studio.  It was active until 1903 when Brown left to set up his own photography studio that was located at several locations in St. Joseph until he moved in 1908.  He died on July 11, 1921 in Ohio.
